See the Real Haunted Mansions of New Orleans
There are two approaches to touring these ghostly locales, and both mingle in an irresistible and entertaining cocktail to made to suit just about any taste.
One approach is to give visitors a show that’s admittedly fake, but takes place in such interesting settings that it adds a touch of authentic chill, blurring the line between fantasy and reality.
One venue in which both approaches are used to maximum effect is the Haunted Mortuary. Located at the end of famous Canal Street, this is the home of both a popular spook house experience, and a serious ghost-hunting tour.
The Haunted Mortuary
With the spook house events, reality and fantasy converge where a gory tale is told of a mortician who runs across the corpse of a vampire and creates undead creatures with the vampire’s blood. While the show is highly controlled and perfectly safe, this is an intense experience and unaccompanied minors are not admitted. In fact, younger children are strongly discouraged from attending.
Ghost Hunting
The Haunted Mortuary ghost hunting tours provide extensive historical background, both on the building and on the reported supernatural events. The full range of sophisticated ghost hunting equipment is brought to bear including thermal imaging cameras and parabolic microphones. This is likewise an adults-only event. Tours are $24 and reservations are required.
