It’s not summer until it’s Satchmo Summerfest time!

Visitors and residents always enjoy a festival in New Orleans, especially if it’s free and one of the best is the upcoming Satchmo Summerfest beginning August 3rd.  The three day Satchmo Summerfest event is held every August in honor one of the greatest jazz musicians ever to come out of New Orleans.

Although events will be scattered around the French Quarter, most of the activities will be held at the Old U.S. Mint with live music on two stages on Saturday and Sunday—with plenty of food and drink, of course.

Among the musicians scheduled to appear are the Preservation Hall-Stars, Delfeayo Marsalis & the Uptown Jazz Orchestra, Jeremy Davenport and Kermit Ruffins & the Barbecue Swingers. Ruffins will also perform a trumpet tribute to Louis Armstrong, which will likely be a collection of Satchmo’s greatest and most memorable tunes.

This is a time to enjoy the flavors of New Orleans food in addition to beer, wine, spirits and other non-alcoholic drinks. Some of the featured foods to be offered at this year’s Satchmo Summerfest are: Blackened Catfish Po-boy, Creole Jambalaya, Cajun Pasta, Crawfish Cakes over Seasoned Rice, and Pralines for dessert.

Other highlights of the festival are free dance lessons, a traditional second line parade featuring the Treme Brass Band, collage making for kids, and screenings of some of Louis Armstrong’s performances in movies over the years including “Hello Dolly” and “The Bare Necessities.”

Attendance is expected to be over 30,000, and visitors represent over half of the total number of attendees. With that many visitors in town, fast, reliable and comfortable ground transportation is a must.  Whether a luxury limousine or shuttle transportation to the festival is required, Limo Livery is the ground transportation service to choose. We’ve been an acclaimed New Orleans luxury transportation service for 25 years, and we are driven to keep improving.
